Happy New Year!

VMsources begins the year with a number of important updates for all of our clients, mostly regarding software. Please read the following notes with regard to when to update VMware and Veeam.

We wish everybody a prosperous New Year with ZERO DOWNTIME!!!!!!!

VMware vSphere 6.5

VMware vSphere 6.5 is NOT QUITE READY! DO NOT upgrade at this time!

VMware announced a fix to the purple-screen issues associated with the use of VMkernel virtual NICs (this means ALL versions of ESXi 6.5 are affected) on 12/19/2017 with patch release 2151102. Anybody already using vSphere 6.5 in production should apply this patch right away as it is described as by VMware as “Critical.”

Here are the issues with vSphere 6.5 that we continue to explore:

  • Unproven stability (is purple screen truly resolved?)
  • OVF/OVA issues
  • Permissions issues

We anticipate qualifying VMware vSphere 6.5 for use in production environments before the end of Q1 2018 (3/31/2018) – wait for us to let you know VMware vSphere 6.5 is safe for use in production.

Veeam Backup and Replication Update 3

Veeam Backup & Replication Update 3 has gone to General Availability on 12/18/2017.

This is a major update with many critical features and improvements! Veeam has done a great job of beta-testing this release and we anticipate no significant issues. Please read Veeam KB:2353 for more information.

As with all software, VMsources recommends waiting at least 30 days from General Availability before updating.

If Veeam Backup & Replication Update 3 remains stable, VMsources will update all Veeam Servers to on Monday 1/22/2017. We recommend clients do the same.

If you are using VMsources DRaaS or BaaS (Managed Service) with Veeam, you may need to update your Veeam Console after we do our upgrade of Veeam Servers. For assistance, open a ticket at: https://support.vmsources.com and we will respond right away!

If you use Veeam Backup & Replication internally and would like assistance upgrading to Update 3 (, VMsources will be happy to help! Open a ticket at: https://support.vmsources.com and we will schedule a meeting to assist you in upgrading to Update 3 (!

VMsources VMware Training

VMsources VMware Training classes are going strong. Our classes focus on teaching you or your people what they need to know!

If you or someone in your organization needs to get familiar with VMware vSphere, we recommend our Datacenter Operations (DCO) class. It’s everything you need to know without the overhead of Linux or Command-Line operations!

If you an existing user and looking to brush-up or improve your skills with VMware vSphere, we recommend our Advanced Infrastructure (AI) class. This takes you beyond the GUI into command-line and the installation of advanced tools like vSphere Operations Manager!

If you have a group of 4 or more people who can train simultaneously, contact us for a custom private class, often at far less cost for the group, than sending people individually to training.

We have VERY special pricing for existing customers on VMware Training, check our open-enrolment VMware Training schedule, and call us to schedule training right away!

We hope you have a wonderful New Year and here's to ZERO downtime!!
