Q: What's the difference between the VMware® vSphere™ 5 Transitional Boot Camp and the VMware® vSphere ™ 5 Datacenter Operations?
A: The VMware® vSphere ™ 5 Datacenter Operations class is intended for administrators who need real world knowledge and skills in working with VMware® vSphere™. The VMware® vSphere™ 5 Transitional Boot Camp includes all of the content from the Datacenter Operations class plus command line, automated ESX Deployment and a full upgrade from VMware® vSphere™ 4 to VMware® vSphere™ 5.
Q: How long do classes run?
A: The VMware® vSphere ™ 5 Datacenter Operations is a 40-hour class while the VMware® vSphere™ 5 Transitional Boot Camp is a 50-hour class. Please see the Class Schedule for specific days and hours.
Q: If I would like to attend a class from home, what kind of connection do I need?
A: Most residential cable/DSL connections will work fine. If you are concerned, go to http://www.speedtest.net, run the recommended test, and look for a minimum 768 Kbps download and 256 Kbps upload speed.
Q: I am interested in taking a class from my office, will I be able to participate in every class exercise?
A: Yes, but it is your responsibility to "tune out" phone calls, co-workers and every other distraction that can crop-up at the office. Often, we find that taking classes from home produces a more conducive learning experience.
Q: How complicated is the setup to attend a class from home or my office?
A: Not very complicated at all. In fact, we have prepared detailed instructions which you will find here:
Online Learning Setup
Q: My company has several people who will be taking a class, are there group discounts?
A: Yes. By the time you factor travel, lost work and tuition costs private VMware Training for 3 or more individuals is almost always more affordable then sending individuals to a training center. Please call us at 866-644-7764 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to see just how affordable it is to have us come to you.
Q: Can I take a class from home/work on my laptop?
A: Yes, all you need is one computer. We do, however, recommend multiple monitors so you can work with the instructor through the labs. Almost all laptops can run multiple monitor configurations easily.
Q: I took a class once before and servers were slow and there were lots of problems. How do I know I am not wasting my time?
A: We work on real servers listed on the VMware HCL. Anytime there are many people configuring one environment, there are chances for "unplanned learning opportunities," but we guarantee that our equipment will perform.
Q: What kind of computer do I need to take a class from home or work?
A: We recommend a Windows workstation or Windows Laptop
Q: What about networking? Don't we need Gigabit everywhere?
A: No! We have designed our training program to mirror real production environments and keep the high-speed connections in the datacenter where they belong.
Q: How long does class last every day?
A: Class runs for 7 to 8 hours per day with open lab after class.
Q: Is there a certification available?
A: Yes, please check out: Certification
Q: I have signed up for a class which I will be attending remotely, when will I be getting the materials?
A: Your book and supplemental materials will arrive 3 to 5 days after payment is received. Classroom setup documentation and connection instructions will be delivered via e-mail no later than 5 days prior to class start.
Q: May I/we see the materials in advance?
A: Yes. All we require to ship the book(s) and supplemental materials is a deposit.
Q: I am trying to decide between going to a class or attending it remotely, what do you prefer?
A: Nothing compares to being in class with the instructor and the equipment. Unfortunately, traveling to class isn't always possible and we understand that. That's why we have designed our materials to give you the ability to do 100% of the labs, even remotely.
Q: I will not be able to attend a class which I have paid for. Can I get my money back.
A: Yes. VMsources has one of the most generous cancellation policies in the business; all you need to do is notify us one week in advance of class start for a full refund.
Q: I had a work emergency come up at the last minute and I can not attend and it is less than a week prior to class start.
A: No Problem! Because we will already have allocated resources for you, we will be happy to re-schedule you into an upcoming class.
Q: I spaced-out and forgot to attend class without notifying anyone. Can I have my money back?
A: No.
Q: Why choose VMsources:
A: Our training programs focus on Real World datacenter operations and Best Practice techniques. We teach you what you need to know to work in virtualization today without loading you up with theoretical minutia and deprecated facts! Besides, all of our instructors work as consultants too, with production resumes and verifiable references.
